How do I access RSS?

RSS stands for "Rich Site Summary" or "Really Simple Syndication" and is a type of XML document used to share web content. Alumni.covenant.edu uses RSS to send event updates. Because it is one of the simplest uses of XML, RSS is becoming widely distributed.

RSS "aggregators" (or RSS readers) are able to read the RSS files. Click here to view a number of RSS readers available (many are free) .

What are the Advantages of RSS?

The distinct advantage of using RSS is the ability for the user to choose exactly the content they want. The proliferation of spam has caused email to be an increasingly unreliable source of communication for many online users. RSS bypasses email and gets the information you select directly.

Because the information provided is in XML, and not a display language like HTML, RSS information can be sent to a large number of devices. This means that the XML file can be used to syndicate information on other web pages, within email clients that read RSS, fed into PDAs, cell phones and more.
